An Oldie But Goodie
Built in 2002, this pond is 65 feet long and 40 feet wide. With eight 4″ bottom drains feeding into six filter tank, this pond with all the landscaping around it is something special. There are also two large skimmers. Two 12,000 gallon per hour pumps circulate the water. One supplies the waterfall, and the other goes through two 150 watt high output UV sterilizers then flows back to four mid-water returns. There is an aeration system with three separate diffusers on the bottom of the pond. Another feature of this pond are the two rock “beaches”. One on each end of the pond. A few water plants were planted in these beach areas. A little peninsula extends into the pond as a nice feeding area.
Prior to this pond, there was a smaller pond on this property as well. It was built by a landscaper. It was a few years old and already in need of a lot of work. After I built this big pond, I thought that it would only be a matter of time before we rebuilt the smaller one too. After looking at the big pond, there was just no way to look at the older smaller one and not think it was a real mess. So the next year we rebuilt that one too.
It’s not that small, it’s about 30 feet by 20 feet, with a waterfall made up of some really big boulders. Four bottom drains and two skimmers.
