A Masterpiece! 40 feet by 50 feet. A 20,000 gallon Koi Pond. This was quite a project. Before this pond was constructed, there was an older pond about 8 feet by 12 feet that had a river running to it from a waterfall. We removed all that as well as a couple trees and started digging. This pond has four 4″ bottom drains, two large skimmers each with two 4″ pvc pipes which all are gravity fed into a large filter under the deck behind the smaller waterfall. On top of which you can see that several potted plants were placed to decorate. The large overhanging deck is set on four concrete piers in the pond, and anchored in the ground on the back end.
There are two pumps running the waterfalls both are around 13,000 gallons per hour. After the water is pulled out of the main filter tank, it then goes through a pair of Aqua 30,000 gallon 3″ side mount bead filters, and then through two 150 watt high output UV sterilizers. The water in this pond is crystal clear. I have a video of a bunch of large koi swimming around which was recorded from this pond. Along with the two waterfalls, there is a “geyser” of water on each side of the large waterfall. It’s a special pool fixture with an LED light built in each. When the pond was completed, blue lighting was installed on the waterfalls. It’s stunning!
Below are a few photos of the construction. A lot of pvc pipes, and a lot of boulders. This pond was built in 2015. I still am amazed by it every time that I go there to clean the filters.
